Why Ionization?

One of the more difficult indoor air contamination problems to solve is the elevated levels of microscopic pollutants found in today’s indoor air. They are so small, filters are unable to capture them. The Ultravation® Orion™ Air Ionizer is specifically designed to facilitate the capture of nano- and micro-particulates generated from many sources such as roads, cars, industry and general combustion; but also from products such as cosmetics and synthetic materials found in clothing and furniture.

Ions in the air also have the effect of breaking down the complex molecules of odors, chemical fumes and smoke as well as airborne pathogens and allergens. The process is very much like the effect a summer storm or a mountain stream has in freshening the air outside.

Attracts fine particulates and respiratory irritants into filterable groups

Microscopic and nano-particulates are drawn into the HVAC system while Orion’s needlepoint electrodes release ions that attach to fine particulates. Ions charge the ultra-small particles so they attract into filterable groups and the larger, heavier particle groups are trapped in filtration, or fall to the ground if no airstream or filter is present.

According to The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), ionization added prior to a filter will increase filter capacity by at least 20%.

Neutralizes odors and VOC molecules are broken down

The ions break down the complex molecules, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), smoke, and other airborne toxic chemicals. The remaining atoms re-combine into harmless simplified molecules.

Kills airborne pathogens by disrupting microbe chemical balance

Placing an Orion air ionizer close to a filter will continuously sterilize the filter. The electrical charge that ions bring to the surfaces of microbes causes reactions that inactivate them. The ions will affect microbes whether in the air or on surfaces.
